Let's see where do I start. Been crunching for more than a year on my current project. I joined with the promise that this would never happen to this particular project. I knew that was bullshit but I liked the job. Many weekends have been spent in the office instead of having a life with friends and family. Most of my friends in other industries (even tech industries) think I'm crazy and that I should find another job. Little do they know that the entire industry is like this. There's always a golden carrot promised and when the project is finished, the benefit of the "promise" never fills the void that all the unpaid overtime created. Management is using crunch to assure upper management that they are doing all they can to push people to ship the project. But it's their inability to schedule or admit a mistake that makes it seem ok to make the employees suffer for their own failings. If the industry countinues like this I will probably leave and find a different niche for my skills.
Do you find this valuable?
